Education and Training

County Monaghan is supported by a network of 67 primary and 12 secondary schools and Monaghan Institute of Further Education and Training (MIFET).

Currently under construction, Monaghan VEC hopes to open a new multi-user education campus in September 2012, comprising of:
• A 16 classroom all Irish Primary School for Gaelscoil Ultain
• A 400 pupil all Irish Post Primary School for Colaiste Oiriall
• An Institute of Further Education that will replace the existing PLC College and Theatre
• Sports Hall – to be shared by all education users on the campus

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) is the principal provider of third level education in the region. DkIT offers an extensive range of full and part time courses across four schools – Business & Humanities, Engineering, Informatics & Creative Arts and Health & Science. Many students also choose to study in other universities and colleges that are within a reasonable distance in locations such as Dublin, Belfast, Derry, Sligo, Letterkenny and Athlone.
